In partnership with White Horse Concerts, French rising star Derek de la Bernardie performs atmospheric old and new music for cello during a very special candlelit concert at Dode village.

ABOUT THE CONCERT
The concert has been especially chosen to complement the mesmerising candlelit setting the wonderful church of The Lost Village of Dode has to offer. The program includes a well-loved Suite by J.S. Bach, Capriccio’s by Dall’Abacco, Papillons by Saariahio and Strophes by Dutilleux.
Derek De La Bernardie – Cello
After having discovered the Bach Suites recorded by Pau Casals, musical talent Derek de la Bernardie started playing the cello at the age of 5 at his local music school, in South-West France.
At the age of 10, he entered the regional conservatoire of Toulouse. During his time there, he was awarded several first prizes at national competitions.
For the last two years, Derek has been studying at the regional conservatoire of Paris with Marie-Paule Milone, a former student and assistant of Arto Noras and Janos Starker. He will continue his studies with her in Paris next year at the Pôle Supérieur de Paris Boulogne-Billancourt
Derek attended masterclasses with Lluis Claret, Roland Pidoux, Lowri Blake, Emmanuelle Bertrand, the Quatuor Dutilleux, Marc Coppey.
Alongside his cello studies, Derek also studies conducting.
